Each owner or legal user of a motor vehicle registered in the Republic of Latvia has an obligation to insure the motor vehicle owner’s civil liability. Thus, each driver protects other road users from the damage he/she can do to them. In the event of a traffic accident, insurance compensates instead of the guilty driver any damage caused to health and life of the injured persons, property, as well as road, road structure and environment.
